The Interview - 09 - SKisM (Unofficial)
So our contributor Philippe, who is also a member of the Never Say Die Street Team, managed to be apart of a Q&A session with SKisM, who is one of the leading Dubstep artists of 2012. He has been around the Dubstep scene for a number of years and accumulated a number of hits like Kick It w/ Zomboy, Experts, and his remix of Far Too Loud's 600 Years.
He is also owner of the record label Never Say Die, which is one of my favorite Dubstep labels. Their talent include Dodge & Fuski, 501, SKisM himself, and Eptic (Another favorite artist of mine). They've released a number of hits such as Eptic's Slime City, 501's Feel For You, and DC Breaks & SKisM's Killer! They are a label to be reckon with as they keep putting out hit after hit.
Thank you Philippe for being apart of the Q&A.
SKisM: I come up with inspiration when i have something to say. Tracks like rise of the idiots, rave review and Experts all had a message that i wanted to get across. then the right sample comes along and bam, you got yourself a satirical slice of musical gold!
NSD Soldier: What do you accredit your main success too? your Fans? your Crew?
SKisM: Its obviously a combination of all those. I had a lot of industry experience before most of you guys would have even heard of me or the label, so that helped
NSD Soldier: Who are your top 5 artists to watch out for in the new year?
SKisM: My top 5 artists to watch are The Prototypes, Astronaut, Mayhem & Antiserum, Bro Safari, The Frederick.
NSD Soldier: How did you start producing?
SKisM: I was a dj first, but i quickly realised that i had to produce to get recognised. To be honest i did it because i had to rather than because i wanted to.
NSD Soldier: Do you produce while you are on the road also? If so how do you go about that?
SKisM: I find it really hard producing on the road even though i have the equipment to do it. I am usually coming up with cool things to do in my sets or trying to get a bit of downtime in. the only time i ever manage to get anything done away from home is when i'm visiting my gf in australia.
NSD Soldier: What will your upcoming release will be called?
SKisM: Elixir remixes.
NSD Soldier: How old where you when you have started producing? Btw, how old are you now?
SKisM: I started producing when I was 23 years old and I'm 30 years old now!
NSD Soldier: How to get notice by a label? Never Say Die in particular?
SKisM: Obviously, good music will get you noticed. I found zomboy on soundcloud 6 weeks after he made his first tune. In terms of sending stuff out, a well written email without any bullshit helps...
NSD Soldier: Who's the nicest guy in EDM you know?
SKisM: Skrillex is the nicest guy in edm, which is why i won't tolerate people hating for no reason.
NSD Soldier: What got you started in producing Dubstep?
SKisM: I started making dubstep in 2008 because it was so young and exciting and gave me a chance to get my silly side out. I'm a metal head deep down so the impact of dubstep made me feel like i felt listening to metal.
NSD Soldier: Who is your favorite Drum & Bass artist?
SKisM: Calyx & Teebee
NSD Soldier: What does NSD star symbol mean?
SKisM: The nsd star doesn't mean anything its just the logo that our designer came up with right at the beginning.
NSD Soldier: What band or musician influenced you the most before you made any music?
